When the volume has to stay down

In a jazz trio, a bar gig or an acoustic show, a heavy stick forces you to hold back every stroke. The 7A works the other way: its lower mass lets you play naturally at low volume, and the shorter length brings toms and cymbals closer to your hand. Vic Firth also points it at anyone who wants to get around the kit quickly, whatever the style.

Is the 7A much smaller than the 5A?
Half an inch shorter (15.5 in versus 16 in) and a little thinner (0.54 in versus 0.565 in). You mostly feel the difference in how light it plays.
What drumsticks are used for jazz?
Slim, light models like the 7A, which Vic Firth aims at light jazz. For very detailed ride work, the American Jazz series takes finesse even further.
What is the difference between the 7A and the 7AN?
Same stick, but the 7AN has a nylon tip for more cymbal clarity and longer life. The 7A keeps a wood tip with a warmer sound.
