Zildjian A Sweet Ride 21" Ride Cymbal, Traditional Finish
The A Sweet Ride 21" is an all-purpose ride cymbal with colourful mid overtones that moves from one style to the next without changing cymbals. Reference A0079 is the traditional finish version. It answers the drummer who plays rock on Friday and jazz on Sunday.
What sets it apart
- All-purpose ride that blends into a wide range of styles
- Good stick definition
- Thin-tapered edge that also lets you crash it
- Traditional finish, with a more understated look than the brilliant version
One ride, several jobs
Zildjian ranks it among the best-known rides anywhere, chosen by a long list of drummers from every background. Its strength is balance: enough definition to hold a pattern, enough overtones to add colour, and an edge that crashes for an accent. On Zildjian's Sound Lab scale, it scores 8 out of 10 for sustain.
Traditional or brilliant
The 21" is the only A ride offered in two finishes. The traditional finish keeps the look of lathed metal; Zildjian advises wiping it with a clean, dry cloth, with no product, so the surface is not altered.

Frequently asked questions
- Sweet ride or medium ride?
- The Sweet Ride is built for general use, with richer overtones and an edge you can crash. A medium ride puts more weight on the stroke. For a single ride that does everything, the Sweet is the more flexible choice.
- Sweet ride 21" or 23"?
- The 21" stays quicker and brighter (7 out of 10 against 6 on the Sound Lab). The 23" goes lower and carries further in a big room. The 21" is the safe pick for a standard kit.
- How do you clean a traditional finish cymbal?
- For fingerprints, Zildjian suggests mild dish soap and warm water, then drying completely with a non-abrasive cloth. No polish: it would change the finish.
