Zildjian A Splash 10" Splash Cymbal
The A Splash 10" is a small accent cymbal that fires off a short, lively crash, then goes quiet almost at once. It is for punctuating a phrase or backing a snare hit without leaving a trail of sound behind the music.
What sets it apart
- Short, explosive crash with very brief sustain
- Pure, bright tone with few overtones
- Thin weight for an instant response
- High dryness, rated 7 out of 10 by Zildjian
The oldest cymbal on the drum kit
Zildjian points out that the splash was already on the very first drum kits, long before ride, hi-hat and crash models existed. It remains one of the maker's most popular cymbals because it fits every style: a quick accent in pop, a reply to the snare in funk, a punctuation mark in a jazz horn section.
Its job is not to replace a crash. Where a 16" crash lets the sound ring, this splash snaps and disappears.

Frequently asked questions
- Where should a splash go on the kit?
- Wherever your hand reaches it without a detour: often near the hi-hat or above the first tom, on a short arm. A splash is for quick hits; if it is far away, you will not play it.
- 8" or 10" splash?
- Zildjian offers this splash in 8" and 10". The smaller a cymbal, the faster it reacts and the higher it sounds. The 10" keeps a little more body and is the most common size.
- Is a splash cymbal necessary?
- No: a kit works with hi-hat, crash and ride. The splash adds an accent those three do not, short and dry. It is often the fourth cymbal people add.
