Zildjian A Medium Thin Crash 16" Crash Cymbal
The A Medium Thin Crash 16" is a bright, quick crash cymbal, often a drummer's first real cast bronze crash. It responds fast, opens up easily and delivers what Zildjian calls the brand's typical crash sound, without demanding a rock player's swing.
What sets it apart
- One of the most popular Zildjian crash lines
- Brightness rated 8 out of 10, the highest of the line's sizes
- Opens up easily for a quick response
- 16" diameter, easy to place on any kit
Cast, not cut
Zildjian separates two ways of making a cymbal. Sheet bronze cymbals start as a disc of uniform thickness. Cast cymbals, like this one, begin as molten metal poured one at a time; each piece is then heated, rolled, shaped, hammered and lathed. Zildjian's alloy combines 80% copper and 20% tin, plus traces of silver.
According to the maker, cast cymbals offer more projection and clarity, and their sound grows richer over time.

Frequently asked questions
- 16" or 18" crash?
- At Zildjian, the 16" Medium Thin Crash is brighter (8 out of 10) and shorter (5 for sustain) than the 18" (6 and 7). The 16" snaps and fades; the 18" spreads out longer. Many drummers end up owning both.
- What is the difference between cast and sheet bronze cymbals?
- Cast cymbals start as molten metal poured piece by piece; sheet bronze starts as a sheet of uniform thickness. Zildjian reserves casting for its secret alloy and credits it with more projection and a sound that improves with age.
- Zildjian A or A Custom?
- A Customs have a brilliant finish, distinctive tonal grooves and a lower profile: their sound is smoother and glassier, sought after in the studio. The A series, like this crash, keeps a more direct bright character.
