Zildjian A Custom 18" Projection Crash Cymbal
The A Custom 18" Projection Crash is a brilliant-finish crash cymbal designed to carry farther and louder than a regular A Custom crash. It fixes one specific problem: the crash you can no longer hear once the guitars and bass turn up on stage.
What sets it apart
- More power and projection with every hit
- Stronger high end that cuts through the mix with an edge
- Medium thin weight, definition rated 8 out of 10 by Zildjian
- Brilliant finish of the A Custom line
Why a more aggressive A Custom
A Customs are best known for a bright, refined sound that studios love. Drummers asked for the same colour with more muscle for the stage, and the Projection is Zildjian's answer: more body, a stronger top end and a crash that cuts instead of blending in.
The classic A Custom crash, which is thin, stays faster and softer. The medium thin Projection takes a little more energy to open up, but it gives back more when you hit hard.

Frequently asked questions
- A Custom Crash or A Custom Projection Crash?
- The regular A Custom crash is thin, fast and sweet, ideal in the studio. The Projection is heavier and more aggressive: it projects more and holds its place in a loud band.
- What is a "Projection" crash?
- At Zildjian, it is an A Custom crash designed to carry farther: more power, more body and a stronger high end than the standard version.
- Where should you hit a crash cymbal?
- On the edge, with the shoulder of the stick, in a glancing stroke. According to Zildjian, most breakage comes from poor technique: a stroke that smothers the cymbal wears it out faster.
