Vox amPlug 3 AC30 Headphone Guitar Amp
The Vox amPlug 3 AC30 is a pocket guitar amp that plugs straight into your instrument's jack and sends the sound of the AC30 to a pair of headphones. You can practise at any hour without waking the house, with the chime of the Top Boost channel in your ears instead of a generic amp tone.
What sets it apart
- Warm Normal channel and treble-forward Top Boost channel
- Four stereo effects: tremolo, chorus, delay and reverb
- Nine built-in rhythms, including a surf pattern and a metronome
- Swivelling input plug that adjusts to your guitar
- AUX jack for playing along with your songs
- 40 g without its two AAA batteries
Two sides of the AC30
Channel 1, shown by a green light, recreates the Normal channel: a round, warm sound that suits open chords and blues. Channel 2, red light, switches to Top Boost, brighter and with the cutting attack of 1960s British riffs.
Three knobs are all it takes: GAIN, TONE and VOLUME. A press on the power button changes channels.
Effects you set with a lever
The FX/RHYTHM lever picks the effect, then sets how much of it you hear. Tap the TAP button twice to set the speed: tremolo runs from 1 to 10 Hz, delay from 40 ms to 1 s, and reverb can stretch up to 8 seconds. Your settings are kept when you switch off.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I plug the amPlug 3 AC30 into a speaker instead of headphones?
- Yes. Vox says the headphone jack can also feed a mixer, a recorder or the amPlug 2 Cabinet. Turn down the external device before connecting.
- Does it work with Bluetooth headphones?
- No, there's no Bluetooth: Vox designed it for wired headphones with a 1/8" plug.
- Will it fit a recessed, cup-style jack?
- The plug swivels to follow the angle of the jack; Vox recommends setting it to suit the guitar you're using.
- Can I record to my phone?
- Yes, with a CTIA-compliant 1/8" TRRS cable plugged into the AUX jack; the recorded signal is mono.
- Does it turn itself off?
- Yes, after about 30 minutes with no playing and no controls touched. It stays on while a rhythm is playing.
