Hohner

The Hohner Big River Harp in G is a 10-hole diatonic harmonica and the lowest of Hohner's 12 standard keys. It plays blues in D and folk tunes in G.

What sets it apart

  • G3 on hole 1: the lowest of the 12 standard keys
  • D chord drawing on holes 1 to 4
  • Anything lower calls for a dedicated low-key model
  • G chord on the blow

At the bottom of the series

Hohner's chart starts this harp on G3, a fourth below middle C. On the blow: G, B and D. Drawing on holes 1 to 4: A, D, F sharp and A, a D chord. Blues in D is therefore played in 2nd position, starting from hole 2 draw.

Below G, Hohner only offers harmonicas designed for low keys, such as the Marine Band Thunderbird or the Rocket Low. The Big River in G remains the lowest of the standard models.
