D'addario

The D'Addario XTAPB1253 is a 12-53 set of XT-treated phosphor bronze acoustic guitar strings. It's for the player who wants strings that outlast an ordinary set without giving up the feel of an uncoated string.

What sets it apart

  • Anti-corrosion treatment on all six strings
  • Feels close to a string with no coating
  • NY Steel core and Fusion Twist against breakage

XT or XS: two ways to protect a string

D'Addario protects its strings in two ways. XT treats the wrap wire itself: the string ages more slowly and keeps the feel of bare bronze. XS wraps the wound strings in a continuous film, for an even longer life and a slicker feel.

That makes the XTAPB1253 the pick for anyone who dislikes the feel of a coated string but sees their strings go dull too quickly.

Phosphor bronze in a 12-53 gauge

D'Addario introduced its phosphor bronze strings in 1974, and they have been tied to a warm, balanced sound ever since. The 12-53, which the company calls its most popular acoustic gauge, puts the wound G .024 at 30.1 lb and the low E .053 at 24.9 lb: a middle ground between playability and tone.
