Marshall

The Marshall DSL20HR is a 20-watt tube amp head that keeps up with a drummer at rehearsal and still fits in a car trunk: two EL34s, two channels, and a 10-watt setting for more intimate rooms.

What sets it apart

  • 20 W, or 10 W at the flip of a switch
  • Two EL34s for the classic Marshall power-stage sound
  • Presence control on top of the three-band EQ
  • Three speaker outputs: 16 or 8 Ω
  • 3.5 mm emulated line out
  • PEDL-90012 footswitch included

Enough power for rehearsal

At 20 watts, a tube head driving a 2x12 or 4x12 cabinet can stand up to a drum kit. Marshall aims it at gigs as much as studio sessions. The 10-watt setting comes in handy when the room shrinks or when you're playing at home.

At 9.7 kg and 500 mm wide, it's an easy head to haul around.

Two channels, each with its own gain

Classic Gain and Ultra Gain each get their own gain and volume, and you switch between them with your foot. The Presence control works on the top end, alongside the three-band EQ and the Tone Shift switch.

Three speaker jacks accept a 16 or 8 Ω load.

Frequently asked questions

Is the DSL20 loud enough for gigging?
Marshall positions it for both stage and studio. In a small room, 20 tube watts into a good cabinet is plenty; in a big room, the amp gets miked through the PA.
Is the DSL20HR a tube amp?
Yes: three ECC83s in the preamp, one of them the phase inverter, and two EL34s in the power stage.
Is it a good amp for playing metal at home?
The Ultra Gain channel supplies the drive and the 10-watt mode brings the level down. For very saturated metal at home, players often put a boost pedal in front.
