What an offset cam really does to your foot
With a round cam, the footboard's travel and the shaft's rotation move at the same rate from start to finish. On the Accelerator cam, the axis is offset: as your foot comes down, the leverage changes and the beater covers more distance for the same amount of footboard travel.
The drummer feels this as a push that arrives on its own in the last third of the stroke. The note comes off faster than it was played. The trade-off is that resistance increases as the beater approaches the head, and it takes a while to learn how to control soft dynamics in that zone.
Two chains, and the lateral stability that comes with them
The double chain works on two rows of teeth instead of one. The gain is not speed — a single chain actually has slightly less friction — but steadiness: the shaft is pulled from both sides, with no twisting force to make the footboard wobble under a hard stroke.
