DW 9701 Low Cymbal Stand, Straight or Boom
The 9701 is a low cymbal stand, played straight or as a boom. It is made for a cymbal mounted close to the drums: a drummer who keeps the ride low, almost flat above the tom, has no use for the top half of an ordinary stand.

A low ride is a playing choice, not a compromise
A ride set low and almost flat is played with the tip of the stick and a short wrist motion. The sound is more controlled, the bell falls naturally under the hand, and moving from snare to ride happens without lifting the arm.
Many studio and jazz drummers play this way. Their problem is not height: it is hauling around stands designed to go twice as high as they need.
Less tube, more rigidity
A stand extended to half height is stiffer than one extended all the way, simply because more of each tube stays overlapped. A stand designed low from the start keeps that advantage all the time.
You feel the result on the cymbal: less swaying after the hit, less chance of the stand creeping across the rug, and an angle that stays where you set it.
What remains once the height is gone

In other words, you give up nothing but the height you were not using. That is the opposite of an entry-level model, which takes away height and adjustments at the same time.
