Three surfaces, three ways of meeting the head
Flat felt presents the largest possible surface: the low end comes out full and the attack stays soft. Spherical felt concentrates the same stroke on one point: the note tightens up and gains definition without turning hard. Flat plastic adds the click that is missing when the bass drum has to cut through a wall of amplified instruments.
All three mount on the same body. You do not replace the beater, you replace its face, and the height setting stays where you left it.
Brass, weight placement, and an angle that corrects itself
Four ten-gram weights take the assembly from 64 to 104 grams, and where you place them opens up five notches of forward adjustment. Adding weight slows the return and makes the stroke heavier; moving it forward does the same thing more strongly, since the lever arm gets longer.
Angle compensation fixes a common problem: a beater head mounted straight only strikes flat at one pedal height. Here, the face meets the head flat without reaching for the drum key every time you change bass drums.
