Why 8 mm, and how to check
8 mm is the thread stated by the manufacturer, which lists these nuts as compatible with any cymbal tilter of the same thread. The tilter's threaded rod passes through the cymbal's centre hole and takes the nut. Forcing a nut with a different thread onto it crushes the threads, and crushed threads cannot be fixed on the spot.
Checking takes five seconds: if the original nut runs down and back up freely by hand, with no side play, you have the right diameter. If it binds after two turns, the thread is different.
