With double bass drums, the second pedal sits exactly where the hi-hat stand's legs should spread out. The usual fix is to remove those legs and mount the stand on a clamp. The stand is no longer in the way, but it no longer holds either: it turns at the first stick hit on the edge of the cymbal.

A hi-hat that pivots closes off-centre, the sound changes from one bar to the next, and the drummer corrects with the foot without understanding why.

The reflex is to tighten the clamp more. That marks the tube and fixes nothing, because the torque from the stick is greater than what friction at a single point can hold.

Is it useful if I play a single bass drum?

Rarely. With a single pedal, the hi-hat stand's legs have room and do the job. This mount addresses the double bass drum case.

Can my hoop get marked?

The caution stated by the manufacturer applies to its whole claw-hook range: the sharp edges of a square hoop press against a rounded surface. A protective strip is enough.
