Hole spacing, the number nobody checks before buying
A throw-off mounts with two screws. The distance between those two screws — the hole spacing — varies from one manufacturer to another, and sometimes from one line to another at the same manufacturer. It is the number one reason a mechanism upgrade fails: the part is fine, the holes do not line up.
By making that distance adjustable over a range of 19 to 38 mm, the universal Mini Mag covers the vast majority of existing drillings. In many cases, it therefore mounts on the holes that are already there.
Why the Mini version rather than the full size
A tall throw-off body needs shell height to sit straight. On a shallow snare drum, it sticks out, touches the hoop, or forces you to drill too close to the edge.
The Mini format solves that geometry problem. It opens the upgrade to shallow shells — piccolos, 4.5 and 5 in snares — that were left out, without changing how it works.
What to know before you order
Universal does not mean guaranteed on everything. The manufacturer is clear about it: the part will not fit every snare drum on the market perfectly. Some shells have protruding lugs, internal reinforcement rings or a snare bed that get in the way.
Checking takes two minutes: measure the spacing of the existing holes and the shell depth, and look at what sits behind the mounting area, on the inside.
