DW Hardware

The DWSM2347 is a pack of two quick-release cymbal wing nuts, felts included, which the manufacturer describes as compatible with brands other than its own. That one line is what makes the purchase: a drummer whose stands come from three different makers can fit the same part on every one of them.

What sets it apart

  • Listed by the manufacturer as fitting other brands too
  • Felt supplied with the nut, nothing to hunt down elsewhere
  • Quick release instead of threading all the way down
  • Pack of two, enough for two cymbals at once
  • Designed first for the manufacturer's own stands

A mismatched set of stands, one part

Very few kits are set up with stands from a single maker. You inherit one stand, buy another on sale, keep one from an old band: ten years later, five brands share the space under your cymbals, each with its own nut, its own visible thread and its own felt of a different thickness.

The manufacturer presents this part as universal. That means you can standardize the whole top of the kit without replacing a single stand, and the spare you keep in the case works everywhere, whichever cymbal you just took down.

The felt comes in the pack, and that matters

A nut sold on its own means finding a felt of the right thickness. Too thin and the cymbal chokes; too thick and it starts to float and loses its response. Here the felt comes with the nut, matched from the start.

In a hardware case, it is also one less thing to search for on the floor, on your knees, between songs, with a phone light in your mouth.

When you really notice it

Soundcheck. The engineer asks for a darker crash, the guitarist wants a thinner one, and you have to try three cymbals in four minutes. Otherwise every try means threading a nut all the way off and all the way back on, stand after stand.

It is also the teardown at the end of the night, when everyone is waiting and the cymbals are the last things to come down.

Frequently asked questions

Do quick-release wing nuts hold as well as a regular threaded nut?
Yes. The final tightening is still done by hand: the mechanism is there to skip the length of the thread, not to replace the tightening.
Will they work on another brand's cymbal stands?
The manufacturer presents them as universal and states that they fit other brands. On a stand with an unusual thread, trying one first is still the careful approach.
How many come in the pack?
Two, felts included.
Do I also need to replace the bottom felt?
This pack supplies the felt that goes above the cymbal. The one underneath belongs to the stand and is ordered separately.
