DW SM992 Double Tom Clamp with Memory Locks
The SM992 double tom clamp holds two toms on a single anchor point. It has the same quick-release V-clamp as the single version, but two sockets, two L-arms and two V memory locks: it is the part that gives you two rack toms on a kit whose bass drum has no tom mount.

Drilling a bass drum to fit a holder is a permanent decision, and many drummers would rather avoid it — on a vintage drum, on a valuable drum, or simply because the setup changes from one gig to the next.
This clamp moves the problem elsewhere: both toms hang from a column or a tube, and the bass drum stays untouched. You get the classic two-rack-tom position back without drilling anything.
Two drums on one anchor point: the geometry to watch
Two toms side by side are two loads offset from the axis of the support. The resulting torque is not that of a single drum placed at the centre: it twists the column instead of simply pushing on it.
Hence two rules of thumb. First, the support must be a sturdy tube, not the thinnest rod in the setup. Second, adjust both arms with the load distribution in mind: bringing the drums closer to the axis reduces twisting far more effectively than tightening harder.
Two memory locks, and what they save you at setup
Finding a tom's position again is already work; finding it for two linked drums, where one decides access to the other, is another matter. The two memory locks supplied each mark their own position.
The next setup is then done against the stops, without measuring or trial and error: the toms come back to the same place relative to each other, which is the only thing your hands have memorized.

- On a solid tube and a heavy stand, yes. On a light cymbal stand, the load becomes hard to balance: a rack tube or a column designed to carry weight is a better choice.

- What size drums will it take?
- Those whose mount accepts a 1/2 in rod. The limiting factor is less the tom's size than its weight and the strength of the anchor point.
