The problem with parts bought separately

Why 10.5 mm at the end of the arm

Without it, you end up with an arm too thick for the accessory and resort to improvising a shim. With it, the accessory slides on and locks as intended.
Two different kinds of memory lock
The 1/2 in hinged memory lock goes on the arm: it keeps the accessory from sliding down and sets the depth of engagement. The V memory lock works on the clamp and keeps its place on the support.
These are two memories used at different moments of the setup. That is why the kit contains one of each instead of two identical ones.
