Date your shell before ordering
A tom bracket screws into existing holes. That is the only thing that really matters: if the hole spacing does not match, the part will not mount, however good it is.
The useful reference point is 2012, which marks the change of generation on the high-end series' suspended toms. Before that date, this bracket was on the original shells; after, the manufacturer moved to a different part. On the Performance series, this bracket is the one in use today.
The screws included, and why that matters
The screws of a tom bracket are not ordinary screws. Their length is worked out for the thickness of the shell and of the part: too short and they do not bite enough; too long and they stick out inside the shell and reach the head.
Having them in the box saves you that calculation and the risk that comes with it. On a repair, the missing part is often what holds everything up: you can find the bracket, but not the original screws.
What a damaged bracket does to the sound
A loose or bent bracket lets the shell vibrate against its mount. The result is an unwanted noise, often described as a rattle, that gets wrongly blamed on the head or the hoop.
Checking the mount before looking elsewhere saves time. A bracket in good condition and properly screwed in gives the shell back its stability, and the noise goes away without touching the tuning.
