Zildjian

The K Splash 10" is a thin splash cymbal with a dark voice, a little lower and fuller than the 8", that dies away very quickly after the attack. It is the size to pick when you want a single splash that can be heard in a band.

What sets it apart

  • A dark crash with a full body
  • Very quick response
  • Very short decay
  • A versatile size, between the 8" and the 12"

An accent you can hear

Zildjian points out that diameter sets volume: the bigger the cymbal, the more it carries. At 10", the K Splash gains presence over the 8" (sustain 3 versus 2, definition 3 versus 2) while staying a splash, quick and brief. It cuts through a wall of guitars without turning into a small crash.

Frequently asked questions

Is a splash cymbal necessary?
No, a kit works perfectly well without one. But it is the easiest cymbal to add for more varied accents, and a 10" almost always finds a spot.
How loud is a 10" splash?
Quieter than a crash, since volume follows diameter. It is still present enough to be heard in a band, then it dies away very quickly.
How do you hit a splash?
With a short stroke near the edge, the area Zildjian describes as responding immediately, then let the stick bounce off so you don't choke the cymbal.
