Zildjian K EFX 18" Effects Crash Cymbal
The K EFX 18" is a thin effects crash cymbal with laser-cut openings that produces a dry, dark, trashy sound, explosive and then quickly gone. It is built to mark a heavy accent that stands apart from your usual crashes, without a long tail.
What sets it apart
- Laser cut-outs that boost the explosion
- Quick, dry, dark and trashy sound
- Designed to punctuate and accent
- Thin weight and quick decay
Holes that change the sound
The K EFX is the darker version of the A Custom EFX. The laser cut-outs remove metal in precise spots: the cymbal reacts all at once, spits out a dirty, brief sound, then goes quiet. On the Sound Lab, the 18" rates 9 for definition despite being thin: the accent stays crisp rather than turning into a mere breath.
Crash it or stack it
Zildjian suggests two uses: hit it on its own for heavy accents, or set it on another cymbal to get new articulations and colours. Its traditional K finish matches the rest of the family.

Frequently asked questions
- K EFX 16" or 18"?
- The 16" is a notch brighter (8 versus 7 on the Sound Lab); both share the same definition (9) and sustain (6). The 18" gives a lower, broader accent.
- How do you stack an effects cymbal?
- You set one cymbal on top of another on the same stand, tightening more or less to let it ring or choke it. Zildjian specifically recommends the K EFX for this kind of stack.
- K EFX or A Custom EFX?
- Same cut-out idea, but Zildjian presents the K EFX as the darker version. In a K setup, it blends in better; alongside bright A Customs, the A Custom EFX is the natural match.
