Designed with Akira Jimbo
Zildjian developed the K Custom Hybrid range with Akira Jimbo, one of Japan's leading drummers. The idea: bring together the darkness of a K and the brilliance of a polished finish on every cymbal. On the ride, you can see the pairing at a glance: a brilliant centre, a traditional-finish edge.
Two surfaces, two behaviours
Zildjian explains that a surface without tonal grooves traps part of the energy and gives fewer overtones, which favours ride qualities. That is the job of the Hybrid's unlathed centre. The edge is lathed: sound escapes more freely and the cymbal opens up when crashed. On the Sound Lab, the 20" rates 7 for definition and sustain.
