Zildjian K Constantinople Renaissance Ride 22" Ride Cymbal
The K Constantinople Renaissance Ride 22" is a medium-thin ride cymbal, dark and slightly trashy, designed for small to medium-sized groups. It spreads rich low overtones around a well-defined stick sound and keeps a clear bell: a versatile jazz ride.
What sets it apart
- Versatile with small and mid-sized groups
- Three rows of over-hammering and four clusters
- A beautiful spread of dark overtones
- Unlathed bell underside for a clearer bell
Designed with Adam Nussbaum
Zildjian developed the Renaissance with jazz drummer Adam Nussbaum. The maker presents it as a versatile instrument, at home with small and medium-sized groups, and capable of a wide range of sounds thanks to its hybrid hammering.
Hammering borrowed from two lines
Its hammering takes elements from both the K and K Custom lines. The top gets three rows of extra hammering plus four groups of large hammer clusters, hence that slight trashy grain. Smooth lathing on both sides adds a little give, and the bell's underside, left unlathed, preserves definition. On the Sound Lab, the 22" rates 7 for definition and sustain, with a brightness of 3.

Frequently asked questions
- Renaissance 20" or 22"?
- The two sizes sound quite different on the Sound Lab. The 20" is drier (5) and shorter (sustain 4); the 22", with very little dryness (2), spreads more and gains definition (7).
- What size ride cymbal for jazz?
- There is no rule. At Zildjian, K Constantinople rides come in 20" and 22". A 22" like this one gives more spread; a 20" stays more discreet in a very small room.
- Are K Constantinoples hand-hammered?
- No. Zildjian explains that it now recreates hand hammering with computer-controlled machinery, in a random pattern for the K and K Constantinople ranges, which ensures a consistency human hands cannot match.
