Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash 16" Crash Cymbal
The K Custom Hybrid Crash 16" is a thin crash cymbal that blends the dark colour of a K with the brilliance of a polished finish, with surprising projection for its size. It is the liveliest of the Hybrid crashes: a quick, colourful accent that gets heard without sounding shrill.
What sets it apart
- Darkness and brilliance in one cymbal
- Hybrid finish, brilliant inside, traditional at the edge
- Projects like a heavier cymbal
- Thin weight, quick response
Two finishes on one crash
Like the whole K Custom Hybrid range, developed with Japanese drummer Akira Jimbo, this crash has a brilliant finish in the centre and a traditional finish around the outside. Zildjian presents that mix as the way to join darkness and brilliance, with better crashability as a bonus.
A raw bell that carries
The bell is unlathed. According to Zildjian, that is what lets these thin crashes project like heavier cymbals. At 16", the accent stays lively (brightness 6 on the Sound Lab) and brief (sustain 4), but it cuts through the mix.

Frequently asked questions
- K Custom Hybrid or K Custom Dark as a 16" crash?
- Same brightness (6). The K Custom Dark is twice as dry (6 versus 3) and a little longer. The less dry Hybrid projects more thanks to its raw bell and pairs two finishes.
- K Custom Hybrid Crash 16" or 17"?
- The 17" is a little darker (5), more defined (7) and longer (5). The 16" remains the quickest and liveliest in the range.
- Why does one crash carry more than another?
- Zildjian points mainly to weight and size: the more metal, the more a cymbal projects. It also credits this crash's unlathed bell with projection worthy of a heavier cymbal.
