Zildjian calls the Fat Hats a labour of love: it took around a decade of testing to reach this rich, blended sound. The secret lies in a combination: darker, K-style hammering and wider, A-style lathing.
A top and bottom that resemble each other
On most hi-hats, the bottom is clearly heavier. Here, the gap is reduced, to the point of blurring the line between the two. Zildjian calls it a chameleon pair, to play as is or to mix with other cymbals.
