Zildjian K Paper Thin Crash 18" Crash Cymbal
The K Paper Thin Crash 18" is an ultra-thin crash cymbal, the thinnest in the K family, that explodes into a dark crash and then fades fast. Under the stick it is flexible and "buttery": it responds to the lightest touch and shimmers when you hit it.
What sets it apart
- The thinnest crashes in the K family
- An explosive, dark crash with quick decay
- Flexible, "buttery" feel under the stick
- Three-step hammering for more nuance
The return of a weight class
Zildjian was already making Paper Thin cymbals in the 1950s. After reviewing more than seventy years of cymbal trends, the maker answered customers who kept asking for this weight: the K Paper Thin joins the K family in 18", 19", 20", 21" and 22", the largest Paper Thins Zildjian has ever made.
Three steps of hammering
A reimagined three-step hammering process gives the cymbal its flexibility and nuance. Its very thin profile adds shimmer to the crash and a low-end resonance that Zildjian says is found nowhere else in the K family. On the Sound Lab, the 18" rates 4 for brightness and 6 for sustain.

Frequently asked questions
- Do very thin cymbals break more easily?
- Zildjian says these crashes are as strong as they are thin. The maker mainly points out that most cymbals crack because of poor technique, and publishes advice on how to avoid it.
- K Paper Thin 18" or 20"?
- The 20" is darker (brightness 3) and sustains longer (7). The 18" speaks a little faster and is easier to place. Same definition (4) for both.
- Does a lighter cymbal speak faster?
- Yes. According to Zildjian, lighter cymbals speak faster, sustain less and define the stroke less. That is exactly the character of a Paper Thin.
