Zildjian K Paper Thin 20" Crash Cymbal
The K Paper Thin Crash 20" is a large, ultra-thin crash cymbal that opens up at the lightest touch and answers with a dark, wide, deep crash. It is built for drummers who want the size of a 20" without having to hit hard to wake it up.
What sets it apart
- Paper Thin weight, the thinnest in the K family
- Brightness rated 3 out of 10: low and dark
- Sustain rated 7, longer than the 18"
- Resonant low end that comes from the very thin profile
A large diameter that stays flexible
A 20" crash usually needs some energy before it opens. Here the metal is so thin that a flick of the wrist is enough. Zildjian describes a flexible cymbal that unleashes shimmer and maximum response, with a low-end resonance found nowhere else in the K family.
Where it sits in the range
The series comes in five diameters, from 18" to 22". On the Sound Lab, the 20" rates 3 for brightness, 4 for dryness, 4 for definition and 7 for sustain. That makes it darker and longer than the 18", without the strong definition of the 21" and 22", which climb to 7.

Compared with other manufacturers
These very thin 20" crashes from other makers also aim for a big, flexible crash:

|---|---|---|---|
| Zildjian | K Paper Thin Crash | 20" | Ultra-thin, low, wide |
| Paiste | Formula 602 Classic Paperthin | 20" | Light, soft volume, dark colour |
| Dream | Bliss Paper Thin Crash | 20" | B20 bronze, warm crash, rapid decay |
| Sabian | HHX Thin Crash | 20" | Thin, raw bell, fast attack |
Frequently asked questions
- Are bigger cymbals louder?
- Generally, yes. Zildjian explains that diameter sets the volume: a larger cymbal is louder, sustains longer and sits lower in pitch. The thinness of this 20" partly offsets that: it opens quickly even when played softly.
- What is the difference between a thin crash and a Paper Thin?
- It comes down to weight. The lighter a cymbal is, the faster it speaks and the less stick definition it gives. Paper Thin sits at the end of that scale: the most flexible, most immediate K crashes.
- K Paper Thin in 20" or 22"?
- The 22" is even darker (brightness 2), more defined (7) and longer (8). The 20" keeps a softer crash and is easier to fit on a kit that is already crowded.
