Zildjian K Custom Dark Cymbal Pack (14" Hi-Hats, 16" and 18" Crashes, 20" Ride)
The K Custom Dark Cymbal Pack is a set of four K Custom Dark cymbals in the most requested sizes: 14" hi-hats, 16" and 18" crashes and a 20" ride. The sound is warm and rich, with just enough bite to cut through a band.
What sets it apart
- The four most popular K Custom Dark sizes
- Warm, rich sound that stands out in the mix
- Slightly dry, trashy overtones
- Traditional finish, made in the U.S.A.
Hammered after lathing
K Custom Dark gets overhammering on the top. According to Zildjian, hammering added after lathing reduces overtones, adds dryness and shortens the decay. That is where those slightly dry, gritty overtones come from: the cymbals sing without dragging on.
A setup in standard sizes
14" hi-hats, 16" and 18" crashes and a 20" ride: the most common layout on a kit. It fits the stands you already own and covers every role, from a tight hi-hat groove to the end of a phrase on the 18" crash.

Frequently asked questions
- K Custom Dark or A Custom?
- They are two different worlds. A Custom is bright: Zildjian gives it symmetrical hammering, which raises the profile and brightens the sound. K Custom Dark instead gets overhammering on the top, which removes overtones and makes the sound darker and drier.
- What does a "dark" cymbal mean?
- It is about pitch. A dark cymbal sounds lower, with less high-end in its overtones. It blends with the other instruments rather than cutting like a bright cymbal.
- Traditional or brilliant finish: does it change the sound?
- A little. Zildjian notes that polish removes the natural patina and can slightly brighten the sound. That is why a traditional-finish cymbal is simply wiped with a clean, dry cloth, with no cleaner.
