Zildjian L80 Low Volume 10" Splash Cymbal
The L80 Low Volume Splash 10" is a small, thin, low-volume splash cymbal, up to 80% quieter than a traditional splash. It adds short, quick accents to an L80 practice kit without upsetting the volume balance.
What sets it apart
- 10" splash, thin weight
- Up to 80% less volume
- Can be struck or choked
- Can serve as a stack component
A flash of an accent, muted
A splash is for quick punctuation, where a crash would ring too long. Zildjian publishes three clips of this L80: a crash, a hand-choked crash and a crescendo. Being thin, it opens instantly and goes quiet just as fast.
To complete or to stack
No L80 pack includes a splash: this one is sold on its own, to add to a kit already in place. Zildjian also suggests using L80s as stack components. Set on another L80 cymbal, the 10" becomes a starting point for effect sounds.

Frequently asked questions
- Is a splash cymbal necessary?
- No, a kit works fine without one. It adds a colour: the short accent that punctuates a phrase. For home practice, it lets you work on those punctuations before playing them with a band.
- What is the difference between a splash and a crash?
- A splash is smaller, higher and much shorter. According to Zildjian, a small cymbal reacts faster and dies away sooner; a crash, being larger, delivers a broader accent.
- What does a splash cymbal do?
- It punctuates: a sharp hit in the middle of a groove, an accent on an offbeat, a hand-choked effect. Its brevity makes it easy to slip in between two crash hits.
