Zildjian

The L80 Low Volume Crash Ride 18" is a crash ride 80% quieter than a traditional cymbal, with a real Zildjian cymbal feel. It serves as both ride and crash in a practice room, a lesson or a low-volume gig.

What sets it apart

  • 80% quieter
  • Crash and ride in one cymbal
  • Sticks, brushes and mallets
  • Sandblasted matte finish

Play long without fatigue

Zildjian designs the L80s so you can play at low volume on a real acoustic cymbal and avoid the ear fatigue of long sessions. This crash ride responds well to sticks, brushes and mallets.

What Sound Lab measures

Brightness 4, dryness 10, definition 5, sustain 2. The sound stops very quickly: that is the cost of low volume. Zildjian adds that it can also be used as a stacker or as a hi-hat component for effects.

Care

The sandblasted finish may show fingerprints, then oxidize naturally. A clean, dry cloth is enough; Zildjian advises against any cleaner, which could alter the finish.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make a ride cymbal quieter?
By playing a low-volume cymbal like this one, 80% quieter, rather than muffling it.
Crash ride or ride?
A crash ride covers both roles; handy when a practice kit has only one large cymbal.
Are L80s suitable for gigs?
Yes, for low-volume gigs, according to Zildjian, as well as practice and lessons.
