Zildjian L80 Low Volume 20" Ride Cymbal
The L80 Low Volume Ride 20" is a medium-weight, low-volume ride cymbal, up to 80% quieter than a traditional ride. It lets you work on ride patterns and bell strokes at home, with the feel of a real cymbal.
What sets it apart
- 20" ride, medium weight
- Up to 80% less volume
- Bow patterns and bell strokes both playable
- Completes an L80 set that only has a crash ride
A real ride in the practice kit
L80 packs include an 18" crash ride that plays both roles. Adding this 20" ride separates the jobs: the crash ride keeps the accents, the ride carries the time. The sound clips Zildjian publishes show the ride in a pattern, on the bell and in a crescendo.
Medium weight, steady feel
Its medium weight gives a ride that holds the pattern without washing out, even as you speed up. The matte, sandblasted finish only needs a clean, dry cloth: Zildjian rules out any cleaner, which could alter the surface in unintended ways.

Frequently asked questions
- Zildjian L80 or Meinl Practice HCS?
- Both are aimed at low-volume practice. Meinl states about 15 dB less with a brass ride punched with holes; Zildjian states up to 80% less volume, without publishing the alloy of its L80s.
- What is a medium ride cymbal?
- It is the most common compromise: enough metal for clear stick definition, without the stiffness of a heavy ride. Zildjian rates this L80 "Medium".
- When do you play the ride?
- The ride carries the time when the hi-hat is no longer enough: choruses, solos, more open sections. Practising on a real ride, even at low volume, gets your hand used to the distances on the kit.
