Pearwood that swells less
The wooden comb gives the Marine Band its character, but wood soaks up breath moisture. So Hohner seals the pearwood under two coats of clear lacquer to limit swelling. The mouthpiece is cut from the same pearwood.
To keep it in shape, Hohner suggests tapping the harp into your palm after playing, wiping it with a soft cloth and letting it dry before it goes back in its case. In B, drawing on holes 1 to 4 gives an F sharp chord, which Hohner writes as G flat.
