Audix MicroD Clip-On Miniature Condenser Drum Microphone
The MicroD is a hypercardioid miniature condenser mic that clips onto a drum hoop: it picks up a tom or a snare from very close, with no mic stand around the kit, and handles 140 dB SPL.
What sets it apart
- DVICEMICRO hoop clip
- Hypercardioid: isolation and less feedback
- Rubber shock mount in an aluminium ring
- APS910 adaptor and windscreen supplied
Mounting the MicroD in four steps
Audix describes the setup this way. Slide the mic into the clip's shock mount, twisting it gently back and forth, and leave the side ports of the capsule uncovered. Hook the clip's inside slider under the hoop, then lift it up and over the top: it holds by tension. Adjust the gooseneck with the lower thumbscrew. Finally, secure the cable to the gooseneck with the supplied grommets, leaving some slack. Starting point: 2 to 3 inches off the head, slightly inside the hoop, pointing at it.
A condenser that stands up to the stage
Its hypercardioid pattern isolates the target drum and limits feedback, while keeping a natural sound even right on the head. The mic responds from 40 Hz to 20 kHz. Its built-in 6 ft cable ends in a mini XLR female and plugs into the supplied APS910 adaptor, which gives a standard XLR output; 9 to 52 V phantom power is required. Keep it in its pouch: Audix points out that the capsule dislikes moisture and extreme temperatures.
