Mahalo Ukuleles

The Mahalo Pearl Series baritone is the largest ukulele in the series: a solid Sitka spruce top, a mahogany body and D-G-B-E tuning, the same as the four highest strings of a guitar. A guitarist finds familiar chords within the first minute.

What sets it apart

  • dGBE tuning, like the top of a guitar
  • 51.1 cm scale and 20 frets
  • Solid Sitka spruce top
  • Pearloid ornamentation

The bridge between guitar and ukulele

Soprano, concert and tenor ukuleles tune to G-C-E-A. The baritone drops to D-G-B-E: Mahalo notes that these are the same notes as the four highest strings on a guitar. Fingerings learned on guitar work as they are, and the range sits a fourth below the tenor.

A large size, well dressed

The 51.1 cm scale and 20 frets make it a long instrument, with a 36 mm nut. The Pearl signatures are all there: pearloid binding, twisted wood rosette, a palm tree on the headstock, an amara ebony fingerboard. It packs into a heavy-duty shoulder-strap bag.

Frequently asked questions

What is baritone ukulele tuning?
dGBE: D, G, B, E from the fourth string to the first, like the top of a guitar.
Is a baritone ukulele easier than guitar?
It has only four strings and a shorter neck, so chords get simpler, using the same shapes as on the four highest guitar strings.
Are baritone ukulele chords different?
The shapes match the soprano, but the lower tuning changes the chord name: the soprano's C shape gives a G on the baritone.
