In a bass drum line, the smallest drum almost always gets the tightest figures. It chops up the sixteenth notes while the big drums hold the pulse. A mallet that is too heavy on this drum turns every note into a mass of sound, and the figure disappears.

What size bass drum mallet do I need for my drum?

The mallet grows with the drum. This one covers 16 and 18 in drums; above that, move up a size. What size changes first is the volume available, not how clean the attack is.

How is it different from the standard marching mallet of the same size?

The shaft. The standard version thins in the middle; the Power stays thick and swells further under the head, which makes it the choice for lines that play a lot of rims.

Do both hands need the same size mallet?

Yes. Both hands play the same drum, one on each side: a different size on each side would give two tones from a single drum.

Can I use these on a concert bass drum?
