Zildjian

Zildjian Straps are a pair of durable synthetic leather straps for holding hand cymbals. They give a dependable grip, whether you play in a marching band, a drum corps or an orchestra.

What sets it apart

  • Durable synthetic leather
  • Dependable grip on hand cymbals
  • A common choice for marching bands and drum corps
  • Gold Zildjian logo, sold in pairs

When to replace them

Zildjian's guide to marching cymbals recommends checking your straps often, especially around the centre hole. Fraying or cracking means it is time to replace them. A strap costs far less than a cymbal that cracks after a fall.

Frequently asked questions

How do you tie cymbal straps?
Zildjian teaches a box knot: feed the ends through the cymbal hole, set the tension, then loop each end over the nearest strand and under the next. Tighten a little at a time, without forcing any one strand.
How do you set the strap tension?
With your hand in playing position, adjust before tying. Too loose and you lose control of the cymbal; too tight and it is hard to grab, and your hand tires during rehearsal.
What type of strap is best for concert playing?
According to Zildjian, leather is the most comfortable and lasts longer; nylon, more elastic, costs less. In concert, many percussionists play without a pad for better control of the cymbal.
