Marshall ShredMaster Reissue Distortion Pedal
The Marshall ShredMaster is a high-gain distortion pedal, a reissue of the brand's first high-gain stompbox: thick distortion, long sustain and a Contour knob that scoops or fills the mids, for the muscular rock of the nineties.
What sets it apart
- Marshall's first high-gain pedal, reissued
- Thick, saturated distortion with long sustain
- Contour knob for shaping the mids
- Separate bass and treble
- Gold embossed name, period Marshall logo
- Hand-built in Bletchley
The big sound of the nineties
The original ShredMaster became tied to much of the game-changing music of the nineties. Marshall designed it for maximum sustain and articulation: dense distortion in which every note stays readable.
The reissue reproduces the period housing, the gold embossed name and the heavy-duty build of the original.
What the Contour knob does
Sitting between bass and treble, the Contour works on the mids: scooped, they give a darker, heavier sound; filled in, they help the guitar cut through the band. With gain and volume, that makes five controls to put the distortion exactly where you want it.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the ShredMaster have enough gain for metal?
- For eighties and nineties hard rock and metal, yes. For very tight modern styles such as djent, it was not designed for that.
- What does the Contour knob do?
- It sets the mids between bass and treble: scooped for a heavy sound, filled in to cut through the band better.
- Is the reissue brighter than the original?
- Players who compared the two find the reissue slightly brighter, with a bit more gain on tap; Marshall says it reproduced the circuit.
