Marshall DriveMaster Reissue Overdrive Pedal
The Marshall DriveMaster is a reissued overdrive pedal built on The Guv'nor, whose tone and gain circuit was redesigned: its three-band EQ behaves like a second Marshall amp placed in front of your own.
What sets it apart
- Derived from The Guv'nor, reworked circuit
- Three-band EQ: bass, middle, treble
- Gain and volume controls
- No insert loop: simpler to hook up
- Handmade, mild steel housing
- Original housing shape and knob finish
One more amp in the chain
Marshall presents the DriveMaster as an extra amp, with real Marshall tone and overdrive. In front of a clean amp, it turns it into a driven one; in front of an amp that is already pushed, it adds a second gain stage.
How it differs from The Guv'nor
The two pedals share a lineage, but the DriveMaster got a new tone and drive network. It drops The Guv'nor's insert loop and keeps five knobs: gain, bass, middle, treble and volume.
Like the other reissues in the series, it is handmade in a mild steel housing whose shape and knobs follow the original.

Frequently asked questions
- DriveMaster or The Guv'nor: what is the difference?
- The DriveMaster starts from The Guv'nor with a reworked tone and drive network, without the insert loop. Some players find it rounder in the lower mids on chords.
- Does the DriveMaster have an effects loop?
- No, unlike The Guv'nor. It simply goes between the guitar and the amp.
- Does it sound like a Tube Screamer?
- Some compare it to that kind of smooth drive, but its three-band EQ makes it closer to an amp preamp.
