Shure RK312 Replacement Grille for Beta 87A and Beta 87C
The Shure RK312 is the replacement grille for the Beta 87, Beta 87A and Beta 87C vocal mics, in both wired and wireless transmitter versions. It gives an intact head back to a mic whose grille is dented or worn, without touching the cartridge.
What sets it apart
- Genuine Shure part for the Beta 87, Beta 87A and Beta 87C
- Also fits ULX-D and QLX-D Beta 87A and Beta 87C handheld transmitters
- Hardened steel grille with satin nickel chrome plating, like the one supplied on the Beta 87A
- Also fits an SM87, according to Shure
- Replaces the part that takes the hits without changing mics
The part that takes the hits
On a handheld vocal mic, the grille absorbs the drops, the knocked-over stands and the contact with the mic stand. The Beta 87A guide describes it as dent-resistant hardened steel, but a bent grille eventually needs replacing. Shure also asks that the grille never be covered with the hand, which hurts the mic's performance.
Wired or wireless, one grille
Shure's page ties the RK312 to six products: the wired Beta 87A and Beta 87C, and the Beta 87A and Beta 87C handheld transmitters of the ULX-D and QLX-D systems. A venue running both formats keeps a single spare part. Shure's tech support also confirms it fits the SM87, but not the SM58, whose body does not take it.
