Zildjian S Thin 16" Crash Cymbal
The S Thin Crash 16" is a thin crash cymbal that reacts to the lightest touch with a bright, full crash followed by a shimmer. It is aimed at drummers who play with dynamics and want a crash that opens without forcing.
What sets it apart
- Very quick, sensitive response
- Bright, full crash
- Shimmering sustain
- Thin weight
It opens before you push
The S Thin Crash responds to the slightest flick of the wrist. No need to hit hard for a full crash: the thin metal starts vibrating right away, then leaves a shimmer that follows the phrase. Ideal for soft passages where a heavy crash would stay silent.
The middle of the thin range
The Thin series comes in 14", 16", 18" and 20". The 16" rates 7 for brightness, 3 for dryness, 7 for definition and 5 for sustain: lower and longer than the 14", livelier than the 18". Zildjian notes that the smaller thin sizes also work as stackers.

Frequently asked questions
- Thin or medium crash?
- A thin crash speaks faster and softer; a medium one carries further and defines the stroke better. In the S Family, this 16" Thin rates 7 for definition, against 8 for the Medium Thin.
- What is a thin crash cymbal?
- A crash with less metal. According to Zildjian, lighter cymbals speak faster, sustain for less time and give less stick definition. The S Thin responds to the lightest touch.
- Crash or thin crash: do you have to choose?
- Not necessarily. Many drummers combine a thin crash for dynamics with a heavier crash for loud accents. The 16" S Thin plays the first role well.
