Shure SB904 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery for GLX-D+
The Shure SB904 is the rechargeable lithium-ion battery for GLX-D+ wireless transmitters, the GLXD2+ handheld as well as the GLXD1+ bodypack. Shure rates it at up to 12 hours of runtime, and a quarter hour of charging gives back about an hour and a half of playing.
What sets it apart
- Up to 12 hours of runtime according to Shure
- Quick charge: 15 minutes for about 1 h 30 of use
- Time remaining shown in hours and minutes
- Three ways to recharge: receiver, sled charger or the transmitter's USB-C port
- No memory effect: no need to drain it before recharging
How much charge for how much show
The user guide for the GLX-D+ system, which runs on two radio bands, 2.4 and 5.8 GHz, gives a table measured in the 5.8 GHz band: 15 minutes of charging give up to 1 h 30 of runtime, 30 minutes up to 3 h, one hour up to 6 h, and three hours up to 11 h 30. Storage time and heat reduce that maximum. A new battery gets a full charge before its first use.
Where to charge it
The GLX-D+ receiver has a charging bay that works as soon as it is plugged in, even when switched off. The SBC10-904 single-battery sled charger recharges it outside the transmitter, from AC power or a USB port. Finally, the transmitter charges through its USB-C port; Shure notes that it passes neither audio nor radio signal while the charging cable is connected.
Keeping it healthy
Shure recommends storing it between 10 and 25 °C, charged to about 40% for a long break, and checking the charge every six months. A transmitter that no longer detects its receiver switches itself off after about an hour, which spares the battery forgotten in a mic.
