Marshall

The Marshall Studio Classic SC20C is a 20 W tube guitar combo, made in the UK, that delivers the JCM800 sound in a 14.55 kg cabinet with a 10 in. speaker, and switches to 5 W for sensible volumes.

What sets it apart

  • JCM800-inspired tone, made in the UK
  • 20 W or 5 W at the flick of a switch
  • Two EL34s, three ECC83s
  • Preamp volume and master volume
  • Two inputs: high and low sensitivity
  • Series effects loop and DI output

The JCM800 as a combo

The JCM800 arrived in the 80s and left its mark on rock with its forthright overdrive, driven by the master volume. The SC20C keeps the layout: one channel, a preamp volume for gain, a master for room volume.

Marshall describes a sound that goes from clean to barking overdrive, all the way to soaring solos.

All-in-one, 20 or 5 W

The combo puts the amp and a 10 in. speaker (Celestion, 16 Ω, 50 W) into 510 × 460 × 255 mm. A switch goes from 20 W to 5 W for home or the studio.

Its five speaker outputs (16, 8 and 4 Ω) let you add a cab, such as the SC112.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SC20C a real JCM800?
Marshall presents it as the same legendary tone as the original JCM800, in a smaller 20 W format. It's a scaled-down version, made in the UK.
Is the 5 W mode quiet enough for an apartment?
It lowers the power, but a 5 W valve amp is still loud. The master volume helps keep the overdrive at room level.
Do I need a boost pedal in front of the SC20C?
It's not required. Many players add a boost or an overdrive-style pedal to tighten the low end and push the gain.
Is there reverb?
No. The series effects loop takes a reverb pedal.
