Marshall Studio Classic SC20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head
The Marshall Studio Classic SC20H is a 20 W tube guitar amp head, made in the UK, that delivers the JCM800 sound in a 9.4 kg package: one channel, a master volume, and a switch to drop to 5 W.
What sets it apart
- The tone of the original JCM800, according to Marshall
- 20 W or 5 W
- 9.4 kg, smaller and lighter than the original
- Five speaker outputs: 16, 8 and 4 Ω
- Speaker cable and power cord included
- Series effects loop and DI output
The JCM800 that travels
Marshall describes it as smaller and lighter than the original JCM800. It keeps the one-channel formula and the master volume, but fits into 510 × 240 × 240 mm and weighs 9.4 kg. Marshall builds it in its British factory.
It ships with its speaker cable: all you need is a cab to play.
Two inputs, forthright overdrive
Two inputs offer high and low sensitivity, to suit the guitar you plug in. The preamp volume sets the gain, the master sets the room volume.
The head has no reverb: the series effects loop takes the one on your pedalboard, and the DI output is there for recording.

Frequently asked questions
- Which cab should I use with the SC20H?
- Marshall offers the SC112 (16 Ω) and SC212 (8 Ω) from the same series. Any 16, 8 or 4 Ω cab plugs into the matching output.
- What boost pedal should go in front of the SC20H?
- A clean boost or an overdrive-style pedal, gain low and level high, tightens the low end and pushes the preamp's overdrive.
- Is the 5 W setting low enough for home?
- It reduces power, but the head is still a valve amp. Keep the master low and raise the preamp volume for gain.
