Shubb Standard C4 Capo for 7.25 in Radius Fretboards, Polished Nickel
The Shubb Standard C4 is a capo for electric guitars with a strongly curved 7.25 in (18.4 cm) radius fretboard, as found on some vintage Telecasters and Stratocasters. Its 2 in bar has more curve than any other Shubb.
What sets it apart
- Pronounced curve for a 7.25 in fretboard
- 2 in (5.1 cm) bar
- Polished nickel, roller and over-centre lever
- Takes the same replacement sleeve as the model 1 (R1)
Does your guitar need it?
Probably not, and Shubb says so plainly: most Fenders do not have this extreme radius. The C4 is for older Teles and Strats, and a few copies, that kept a 7.25 in fretboard. On other electrics, the model 1 is the right pick.
When the curve does not match
A capo that is too flat on a steeply curved fretboard presses the middle strings well and lets the outer ones buzz. The C4 follows that curve; its soft rubber takes care of the rest.
Other finishes of this model: brushed nickel (C4N) and brass (C4B).

Frequently asked questions
- Which guitars take the 7.25 in capo?
- Older Teles and Strats with that radius, and a few copies. The vast majority of electrics, recent Fenders included, take the model 1.
- Shubb C1 or C4: which one?
- The C1 for a fretboard with a common radius; the C4 only if the fretboard is 7.25 in. On many necks, both work thanks to the soft rubber.
- Is a Shubb a good fit for a Telecaster?
- Yes. A modern Tele takes the C1; a vintage Tele with a 7.25 in fretboard takes this C4.
