Why a shorter bar
Rick Shubb says he never capos his 5th string above the 10th fret. So he made himself a shorter bar, which became the standard size. It takes up less room on the neck, a plus for anyone who wraps a thumb around it, and mounts with two screws instead of three.
Installation
Shubb recommends having the bar installed by a luthier; it takes a few minutes. Players comfortable with small tools can fit it themselves.
