Marshall

The Marshall Studio 900 SN20C is a 20 W two-channel guitar combo with built-in reverb and a 12 in. speaker that brings back the 90s JCM900 sound in a format you can carry alone, from sparkling cleans to overdriven solos.

What sets it apart

  • Two channels to go from clean to overdrive
  • Built-in reverb
  • 20 W, 5 W or under 1 W
  • 12 in. Celestion G12T-75
  • DI output and compensated DI output
  • Made in Bletchley, England

The JCM900 as a combo

The original JCM900 was a 100 W head. Marshall says it captures that sound in this 20 W combo, with the same idea: a clean channel, an overdrive channel, and reverb ready to go.

It's the amp for a guitarist who plays a whole song, clean verses and overdriven choruses, without a pedal.

Three power levels and direct recording

The combo goes from 20 W to 5 W, then under 1 W, for late playing without giving up the valve sound. The two DI outputs send the signal to an interface; the compensated one is intended for direct recording.

Marshall describes a hybrid design that pairs the warmth of valves with the reliability of solid-state components.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Studio 900 all-tube?
It uses ECC83 valves and two 5881s in the power section. Marshall does, however, describe it as a hybrid, with solid-state components, without saying which.
Studio 900 or Studio Classic?
The Studio 900 has two channels and reverb; the Studio Classic (JCM800) has one channel and no reverb.
What is the compensated DI output for?
It's for recording or feeding the PA directly from the amp, in addition to the standard DI output.
