A 16 1/4 in stick does not stand out when you look at it. An acorn tip presents a fairly wide curved surface at the moment of contact. On a drumhead, it sets more of the head in motion and produces a round tone. On the ride, it gives a full wash rather than a sharp point: you hear the body of the cymbal as much as the attack.

Is an acorn tip good for ride playing?

Yes, if you want a full, warm sound. It brings out the body of the cymbal more than the point of attack. For a very articulate pattern, a small teardrop or barrel tip gives more definition.
