The Nude 1A is an American hickory drumstick model, 16 3/4 in long with a 0.590 in grip and an acorn tip, supplied without lacquer. That unusual length is made for kits where the cymbals are far away and for drummers who hold their sticks fairly high up the shaft.

What the extra length really fixes
A spread-out kit forces a choice between leaning your upper body forward and missing the centre of the cymbals. Neither is good: the first tires your back, the second damages the cymbal edges and the sound along with them.
Three quarters of an inch of shaft is often enough to remove the choice. Your arm stays relaxed, the stroke lands where it should, and your posture holds all night.

Many drummers instinctively hold their stick fairly far from the butt end. On a 16 in shaft, that grip wastes length and tips the balance forward.
A 1A gives back what was missing: the hand finds its natural spot and there is still wood behind it. The balance becomes neutral again without changing the motion.

The Nude series drops the lacquer. The shaft keeps the texture of sanded hickory, which offers slight resistance against the palm. When your hand gets sweaty, that texture holds the stick where a lacquered surface would let it slip.
The trade-off is cosmetic: raw wood gets dirty and takes on a patina faster. That is the only price to pay.
