To hit harder, you can make a stick longer or thicker. Most models pick one. This one does both: three quarters of an inch more than a 5A, and a diameter larger than a 5B.

A 2B concentrates its mass in a short, wide shaft: the hand carries all of it, without the benefit of leverage. Here, part of the mass is spread along the length, and so turned into leverage rather than dead weight.

For comparable energy delivered, the effort asked of the wrist stays lower. That is the concrete benefit of this combination of dimensions.

A thick stick with a narrow tip can turn harsh: too much energy on too little surface. The acorn broadens the contact and brings fundamental back into the sound.

Does it come with a nylon tip?

No. This model is only offered with a wood tip.

Is it heavier than a 2B?

The diameter stays below that of a 2B. The feel comes mostly from the length, which increases momentum.

Is it good for the studio?

Yes, for power playing. For soft dynamics, a more modest size will be more responsive.

Isn't an acorn tip too broad for rock?

Quite the opposite: it keeps the cymbal from turning harsh as the volume rises.
