What a shorter handle changes
Between two identical bundles, the one whose handle stops sooner lets more dowels do the work. On impact, those dowels spread slightly, stay in contact with the head a moment longer, and produce a sound that opens up instead of cracking.

- How are they different from the original Splashstick?
- Handle length. The original's handle runs higher and leaves only four inches of free dowels, which makes it behave more like a stick. Here, the bundle does more of the work.
- Can you play a rimshot with them?
- It is not the recommended use. Repeated contact with the rim is what wears out rods fastest, whatever the manufacturer.
